We are seeking a Project Manager who has managed financial services and/or actuarial projects. This position is W2 hourly with Roth Staffing, with all work taking place for our client in Newport Beach. We cannot consider 3rd party candidates for this role.
Role Summary
The Project Manager (PM II) is responsible for independently leading medium-to-large Finance and Actuarial initiatives. This role owns end-to-end project delivery, balancing execution, governance, and stakeholder management while ensuring business value realization.
Operating with minimal supervision, the PM II partners closely with Finance, Actuarial, and IT stakeholders to manage complex dependencies, risks, and delivery trade-offs. The role applies sound judgment, data-driven decision-making, and PMO best practices to deliver results in a fast-paced, regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Execution
- Own and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, and delivery roadmaps for Finance and Actuarial initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional delivery efforts supporting Finance & Actuarial initiatives.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, and dependencies; make informed trade-off decisions to meet delivery objectives.
- Ensure alignment of project outcomes to business value, regulatory requirements, and organizational priorities.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Finance, Actuarial, IT, and Operations stakeholders to drive alignment and execution across business units.
- Manage relationships with mid- to senior-level stakeholders, providing clear communication on status, risks, and outcomes.
- Facilitate effective collaboration across actuarial operations, finance operations (FP&A, Accounting, Reporting), and technology teams.
Planning, Governance & PMO Standards
- Lead monthly and quarterly planning activities, including capacity planning, demand management, and dependency coordination.
- Own and maintain RAID logs; proactively identify, assess, escalate, and mitigate risks and issues.
- Drive change control processes, including impact analysis and documentation for scope, schedule, and resource changes.
- Ensure adherence to PMO governance standards, project management methodologies, and best practices.
Agile & Backlog Management (Hybrid Environment)
- Partner with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to support backlog planning, refinement, and prioritization.
- Facilitate planning activities, delivery cadences, and milestone tracking in Agile or hybrid delivery models.
- Ensure backlogs are well-maintained and aligned to delivery commitments and capacity constraints.
Reporting, Metrics & Tools
- Develop and deliver executive-level status reports and dashboards highlighting delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and key metrics.
- Use PMO tools and data to capture, analyze, and report project performance in a data-driven manner.
- Organize and maintain project artifacts, backlogs, work items, defects, and test cases in Azure DevOps (ADO).
Required Skills & Experience
- 6-8+ years of progressive project management experience delivering medium-to-large initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience delivering Finance and/or Actuarial projects within financial services organizations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, dependencies, and stakeholders with limited supervision.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a data-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Hands-on experience with project management and reporting tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with actuarial and finance platforms such as Prophet, Oracle Cloud EPM, or Snowflake.
- Understanding of system development lifecycle (SDLC), data platform implementations, and integration best practices.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).
- Agile certifications (e.g., CSM) are a plus.
